README for the subset of 205 genes in the yeast galactose data (Ideker et al. 2001) Format: - "gal205.txt" is a tab-delimited text file, which can be opened by any text editors, Excel or any other spreadsheet programs. - There are a total of 205 rows (genes), 20 experiments, and 4 repeated measurements in the data. There are 4 classes (which correspond to functional categories). - "gal205.txt" contains approximatly 8% of missing data. - "knn12_gal205.txt" is a tab-delimited text file, which is the result of applying k-nearest neighbor (k = 12) to impute all the missing values in "gal205.txt". Hence, "knn12_gal205.txt", contains no missing data, and is used to obtain the results described in the manuscript. - Column 1: ORF name column 2: gene name column 3: class # (from 1 to 4) column 4-7: 4 repeated measurements for expt #1 column 8-11: 4 repeated measurements for expt #2 etc. - Functional categories of the 4 classes: class # GO category 1 biosynthesis; protein metabolism and modification 2 energy pathways; carbohydrate metabolism; catabolism 3 nucleobase, nucleoside, nucleotide and nucleic acide metabolism 4 transport Disclaimer: Since array data may not fully reflect these functional categories, we recommend to use/interprete the classes information with caution. Acknowledgement: We would like to thank Vesteinn Thorsson from the Institute of Systems Biology for the yeast galactose data set.
